JUNGLE WATERFALLS HIKE
5 Hour Adventure Including Commute
Meeting Points are in Kahului
(Level: Moderately Strenuous w/some Technical Aspects)
For experienced hikers or active and fit types only
Enjoy the sweet smell of yellow and white ginger flowers (seasonal) as we hike through a lush jungle in the extinct, Mauna Kahalawe volcano that is easy to miss. Part of this adventure is the road less traveled, and at times, the entire journey feels that way.
Initially hike through bamboo thickets to a dirt trail that weaves in and out of a rocky/boulder stream, like switchbacks (involves lava rock hopping throughout) to an upper two tier waterfall and pool for swimming. Rappelling the waterfall is optional, but only for clients experienced in this or rock climbing, and will be assessed on a case by case basis (dependent on weather conditions and waterfall flow/this skillset is not needed to experience all other activities on hike). Next is a quick hike to another waterfall with impressive rock formations. The stream flow throughout can be higher or lower depending on season and amount of rainfall occurring in higher elevations. Along the way, we'll point out old native ruins, native species, such as Awapuhi ginger (seasonal) for conditioning the skin and hair right there! And Banyan trees, originally from India, with aerial roots that leave us in awe of nature. After feeling refreshed from our first swim, we'll return to the original point of entry and begin our decent to the next phase of this journey.
The 2nd phase involves hiking through giant basalt formations, while descending down to several tier lower waterfalls to explore and swim in the freshwater pools. The first tier has a natural waterfall slide that gushes into the pool, which is great for kids. Or if you prefer jumping into the pool, go for it! We'll then hike further down the rocky stream to an incredible banyan tree with giant aerial routes for climbing down to a larger more secluded, 2nd tier waterfall and pool, with the option of climbing into the fall. Epic! From here, we stand above an even larger and steep 3rd tier waterfall, for viewing, that gushes toward the ocean.
BAMBOO FALLS HIKE
5-5.5 Hour Adventure Including Commute from Meeting Points
(Level: Moderately Challenging & Technical)
For experienced hikers or active and fit types only
The journey starts off with a beautiful scenic drive to the destination. The hike begins with a fairly easy stroll down, through one of our numerous bamboo forests. We then arrive at a creek bed that fluctuates based on waterfall flow, where we rock hop across to giant bamboo and trails. We then rock hop to the 1st waterfall for a quick swim. From there we climb up a 15 foot high, sheer rock, wall near the waterfall. There are ropes and natural steps to use as leverage for climbing up. At the top, we hike through more bamboo, before we arrive at the next larger and more impressive waterfall with a large deep pool. Here you can spend time relaxing in the sun and cooling off. It has cliff jumping spots and a rope to swing off! The next phase is a bit more challenging; we climb up a ladder part of the way, then use preset ropes to get up the steep cliff face to the top of the falls. Your guide will be very useful here. We then lava rock hop through the creek bed, making our way to a hidden rock formation that drops down into a hidden channel to swim through (this is where our drypack is handy), in order to climb up a man-size waterfall into the creek bed and rock hop to a 100+ ft waterfall to explore, relax, have a snack or lunch, and soak up the sun. There are several tier levels for climbing and jumping off the extensive lava rock wall near the falls (from high to low), which is great for all involved. By now, most people have dropped off! The return is much faster without stopping. The hike takes approximately 3.5 - 4 hours before driving us back to our meeting point to finish the day.
Further into this adventure hike is the road less traveled and for experienced hikers or active and fit types, including kids, ages 10 or older.
MAUI RIDGE & WATERSLIDES HIKE
5 Hour Adventure Including Commute
Meeting Points are in Kahului
(Level: Moderately Strenuous Stamina Builder)
Hike into the clouds with spectacular 360 degree views - from the lush rainforest of Waihe'e valley in the West Maui Mountains to the Haleakala Volcano of East Maui, incredible ocean views, and one of Maui's largest waterfalls in the distance. It's a fairly steep 4.5 mile hike roundtrip and can be slippery, if wet, going back down, so good hiking shoes with traction are mandatory.
The 2nd phase is a unique local experience, which involves a short hike down to hidden waterfall slides and pools to swim, jump, climb into and cool off in. Kids love this!
